Help Develop a Vision for Chapel-en-le-Frith.
The countryside group of Chapel Vision
The countryside group of Chapel Vision, the community group in Chapel Parish is looking for volunteers to participate on surveys designed to protect and enhance the countryside. The surveys are being initiated in response to feedback from the neighbourhood consultation undertaken, that protecting the countryside is a high priority for many residents. The surveys are due to commence shortly. The information gained will be used to get an improved understanding of the landscape and associated wildlife in the Parish. This will provide the information to identify areas that are of special interest.
We depend on your returns will give us the data we need to locate and help protect and enhance the most bio-diverse and vulnerable areas of the Parish. The surveys are also relevant to The Peak District Biodiversity Action Plan.
Don’t Have Time ?
Even if you do not have time take part in any longer term studies, please suggest potential local wildlife sites and complete the ‘Quick Home Survey’.
Local Wildlife Sites
Do you know of any areas within the Parish that are rich in wildlife?
Just email or telephone me with your ideas. A list of the sites already registered is attached. Wildlifesitesreg.doc
N.B. Combs Reservoir is an SSSI.
Quick Home Survey
Quick Home Survey – What lives in your patch?
Open the attached QuickHome.doc survey form. Make sure you type in your address. Write in the boxes the approximate maximum number of each of the listed amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals seen, at any one time, from your own property in the last year. We are interested in finding out what visits your garden AND any open space adjacent to your property. We are particularly keen to hear from all of you who are adjacent to fields/woodland/‘waste’ land etc.
If you are surrounded by other houses, we want your results for comparison.
In addition to the garden birds in the first column, we definitely want to know about sightings of any of the List of Species of Interest, i.e. the other birds/amphibians/reptiles and mammals, as well as rare plants, e.g. orchids. The list is based on The Peak District Biodiversity Action Plan Species.
Email your completed form back to me, or send a hard copy if it is easier to Joan Prime, 119 Manchester Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak, SK23 9TN.
Other Surveys:
Biodiversity Action Plan Species anywhere within the Parish
If you spot any of the List of Species of Interest (see attachment Occsightlist.doc) or any rare or unusual plants e.g. orchids in any location within the parish boundary, e.g. on a walk, we are anxious to know where, so we can build up a picture of important locations/habitats.
Use the attached Occasional Sightings form (see attachment Occform.doc) and email it to me at intervals, when it is convenient for you, or send a hard copy.
If the easiest way for you to do this is just email/text me the details at the time, that is fine.
N.B. Repeated sightings e.g. of hares/lapwings/curlews in the same field one or several weeks apart are useful, as they indicate probable territories. Notes on behaviour March-July are very useful too, so keep the information coming in. I intend to do the first interim review of your collective findings at the end of June.
Countryside Character/Habitat Survey
One of our big projects is to determine the habitats within the parish. This will be fairly straightforward. Is anyone able to help with the recording? (simple training will be given).
Wildflower Surveys
We are starting these with a Woodland Spring Flower Survey, which is easy to do. Contact me for more details.
Butterfly & Moth Survey
We need someone to organise this one!
If you want to help to Protect & Enhance the Countryside by taking part in wildlife surveys within Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish please preferably email me, or Tel. 01298 812555 or text 07889851300 so I can keep in touch.
Thanking you in anticipation of a positive response: please reply and pass this on to anyone you know who may also be willing to help!
